What is the difference between a sand filter and a cartridge filter?
A sand filter uses a granular media bed and is cleaned by backwashing, which suits larger pools and continuous operation. A cartridge filter gives finer filtration and needs no backwashing, but the cartridge must be cleaned or replaced periodically. Sand filters are the more common choice for commercial and high-load pools.
